LANCEL, an iconic House of French leather craftsmanship, carefully selects its leather suppliers and favors tanneries certified by the Leather Working Group (LWG).
Leather Working Group (LWG) is today recognized as the leading independent international authority in monitoring the leather supply chain.
As an active member, LANCEL is proud to support this responsible and sustainable initiative. This commitment allows us to guarantee our clients high-quality leather with reduced environmental impact and verified traceability throughout the supply chain.
What is the Leather Working Group (LWG) certification?
Founded in 2005, the Leather Working Group (LWG) is an international organization committed to transforming the leather industry by promoting better practices and a global collective effort. Today, it brings together over 400 stakeholders – including brands, tanneries, and suppliers – united by a common goal: improving the transparency and sustainability of leather.
With more than 1,800 certified sites in 55 countries, the LWG sets strict standards for environmental management, traceability, and ethical practices.

What does this certification mean for Maison LANCEL?
LANCEL is committed to increasing the use of more responsibly sourced leathers as part of its mission to create products that are ever more durable over time.
This certification sets the most rigorous environmental and social performance standards for leather production, ensuring our customers transparency and control over criteria such as: energy and chemical management, emissions, traceability of raw materials, and respect for working conditions.
Since the Spring-Summer 2024 collection, over 90% of the leathers used by Lancel have been certified. In Spring-Summer 2025, we are taking it a step further: 99% of our leathers now come from Leather Working Group (LWG) certified tanneries.
To date, 74% of these leathers have achieved the highest distinction within the LWG certification – Gold – guaranteeing an even more responsible and environmentally conscious sourcing approach.

LANCEL continues to innovate in order to offer sustainable and environmentally respectful leather goods. In the long term, the Maison aims to achieve 100% LWG-certified leathers and to use increasingly responsible materials.
